The first step to get better gas mileage is to be sure you have regular maintenance done on your car. If your car is not running efficiently, it will use more gas just to run. Getting regular tune ups and oil changes can help your car to run at it's best.

Another way to get better gas mileage is to consider how you are driving. If you drive heavily, meaning that you often hit the gas and break hard, think about laying off the breaks and gas a bit and letting the car coast. This cuts down on how much gas is used.

You should take your velocity into account as well. Every automobile differs in regards to the speed at which it gets its highest ratings for fuel efficiency, however a significant number of automobiles cars burn much more gasoline when driving at speeds greater than 60 mph. As a result, reducing your speed will improve your vehicle's gas mileage.

Fuel use increments when your car weighs a lot. If you want to maximize fuel efficiency you should remove excess weight from your vehicle. Keep your spare tire, of course, and anything else which is really necessary. Get rid of everything else which may add to your vehicle's weight. This will help you get much better gas mileage.

If you want to save gas, cut down on your driving time or even carpool with co-workers. For any kids you may take to school, send them on the bus or start a ride share program with other parents. All of these options can very easily organized with your everyday neighborhood people.

Try as well to find a central location in which to run errands. Park the car in the middle of whatever places you must visit, then walk to each one instead of driving to it. This really cuts down on gas; you can enjoy the day and get exercise this way too.
